What is Five in a Row?

Five in a Row is played on a 15 by 15 grid: players take turns placing a piece, and the first to line up five, horizontally, vertically or diagonally, wins. The rules take a moment to learn, but you need to pay attention: you have to attack and block your opponent's lines at the same time. Play against the computer or with two players on the same screen.

How to play

• Take turns placing a piece on an empty square; Red starts.
• The first to get five pieces in a row, horizontally, vertically or diagonally, wins.
• On a phone the first tap shows a preview and a second tap on the same square places the piece; with a mouse one click is enough.
• Against the computer: win 100 points plus a bonus for winning in few moves, draw 50.

Tips

• Block a row of three with both ends open straight away.
• Try to create two threats at the same time: your opponent can only stop one.
• Play near the centre, where rows can grow in every direction.
