What is Mahjong?

Mahjong solitaire is an observation puzzle: the tiles are stacked in layers and you remove them in matching pairs. You can only take free tiles, meaning tiles with nothing on top and at least one side free. There are three layouts to finish one after another, always solvable, with colourful symbols that are easy to recognise even on a phone.

How to play

• Tap two tiles with the same symbol to remove them.
• A tile is free if there are no tiles on top of it and its left or right side is free; tiles that aren't free are darker.
• Each pair is worth 10 points. When you finish a layout you get a bonus of 300 points minus 1 for each second, and move on to the next: Pyramid, Bridge, Fortress.
• «Hint» highlights a free pair (-5 points); «Shuffle» redeals the remaining tiles (-20 points); ↶ undoes the last pair. Keyboard: H hint, S shuffle, Z undo.
• Every layout can always be finished; if there are no free pairs left, use «Shuffle».

Tips

• First remove the tiles that block many others, on top of the stacks and at the ends of the rows.
• If you see four matching free tiles, take your time choosing which two to take first.
